For my last class of Career Prep, we got 4 different presentations related to our industry. I thought that every groups topics were very interesting, wheither they were just ideas, concepts or helpful tips and information. My group, Yun, Wellin, Linya and I did our presentation as a tutorial based on rigging and skeleton setup. I thought that we worked pretty well as a team collecting and trading information however presenting as a team did not go so well. Instead of talking together, we split it up and talked one after another to not confuse anyone, I realized it made us less as a team. Other than that and us going overtime, I thought it went fairly well..
My favorite presentation was team Russell, Stefin and Rosa. STRUSA. Their presentation was nothing I have ever seen before and after I felt inspired for any future presentations. They connected with the audience so well in a way I have never seen or thought of.
I also really liked Cori, Alex, AAron and Reha’s presentation. It made me think about after graduating and coming out to find a job. I was really glad Reha could share his information and experience with us about job hunting and applying.
Steven, Natalie & Reymunds presentation made me want to play video games, especially first person shooter games and warcraft, because I had just been playing warcraft earlier that day.. I think it would be great if their game concept turned into reality and I could say that I know the creator(s).
Overall this project helped me on my presentation and listening skills. I will be more prepared with ideas and skills for my future presentations.
Working in a team
For our final project for career prep class, we have to do a group presentation. I usually enjoy group projects because it’s a nice change from having to do all the work by yourself.
Reasons I like group projects:
1. Socializing; this helps me feel less depressed when working alone, I have someone to talk to, some company
2. Brainstorming; the more ideas, the better the project can be
3. Organization; hopefully there will be one organized person in the group that can organize everything so I dont have to do it
Reasons I dont enjoy group projects:
1. Sometimes you can be paired up with someone that doesn’t do any of the work
2. Sometimes you could be paired up with someone that doesn’t do any of the work but takes the credit for doing “equal shares” of the work
3. Sometimes you would do all the work and no one knows it and the other people get the same mark as you do even though you put all the effort into it
4. It can be quite difficult to get everyone together since everyone’s scheduals are very different
5. There will always be some kind of disagreement
6. Nothing will be completely one person’s way
7. If one person’s presentation skill isn’t as great, others could be marked for it as well
hmm… well it seems that I have discovered more reasons to not liking working in groups than reasons for liking group projects…
I think I usually get a fairly positive ending to most group projects, however the bad memories seem to leave a stronger emotion behind… Now that we are in college/university, there’s no teacher around where we can tell on the uncooperative student and the finished product is all that matters and since I’ve only recently graduated from high school, it’s something I have to learn to deal with in the present and the future, so I’m glad I am learning how to now, in a better way, than later, in a way where I could have hurt someone’s feelings..
My current group project is going quite well so far, at first there were a few disagreements, but we all decided on a topic and a method of making it work within twenty minutes. I’ve never been in a group with Linya, Wellin or Yun before, so I was pretty excited to get the chance to. We easily decided on the most important subjects of the topic, and I feel that our project should go quite well.
Thanksgiving Weekend
After several weeks of non-stop work, we finally get a long weekend, a short break and it could not have come at a better time. I really need this weekend to finish all my work. It seems as though there is homework for every subject, everyday and the projects are never-ending. These projects cannot be finished within a few hours, or a few days, but a few weeks, which can be really frustrating since I like to finish them one by one and being able to check them off my list so I can feel more relaxed that I have less work. However this week, we have so many texturing work to do, and I feel as though those projects are for sure never-ending, so I plan to do those last and finish the easier ones first.
So far, within my friday afternoon and entire saturday, I’ve managed to finish my character block-in and half of texturing a scene. I am currently working on my animation project which is a character lifitng a heavy object; However I have decided to take a break from it, because it has been very frustrating. I turned on the animation ghosting to be able to do the in-betweens, the before pose is red while the after pose is blue. I thought that using ghosting animation would be easier but it’s just harder to look at. There’s so many lines and so much going on, it’s giving me a headache.
I’ve also been frustrated because I need my camera for an assignment, and my mom decided to lend my camera to my aunt…
So all I can do at the moment is work hard and stay positive to get through the next few weeks and have all these assignments finished with so I can really concentrate on my demo reel!
My current favorite game

A few months ago, one of my friends were talking about a game called Fat Princess and I noticed the conversation on Facebook. The title definately caught my attention so I decided to youtube it and find out what it was about. After watching the youtube walkthrough of the game I was extremily interested and decided to buy it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHjQzBwawNM
It’s only for PS3 and you can purchase the game online for only $15, so I bought it.
And now, Fat Princess, is currently my favorite game. I love the style of it which is like a comic medieval theme.. Basically the objective of the game is to capture the other princess and protect your own, and feeding the princesses cakes will make them bigger and heavier which makes it harder for the enemies to carry her away.
I am a little inspired by this game because it has a bit of everything i like.
1. It’s fairly violent with blood splatters all over the battlefields, which adds more action to the game.
2. You can feed the princess cakes that you find all over the grounds and they get bigger which makes it hilarious
3. Although the game is a bit violent, everything else is so cute such as the maps and characters
4. There is team speak
5. In the end credits, SirMixAlot’s Big Butt song plays
It’s a pretty addictive game, I’d recommend it
Zbrush
This term we get to learn a new program, Zbrush
and I can hardly wait. Before school, I downloaded the trial version of the program and couldn’t figure anything out cause I’ve never seen or used any kind of program like it before. My father introduced to me at first and gave me a few tutorials to get me interested and after trying to figure it out, I was not interested. But now that we get to learn how to actually use it properly, I could not be any happier.
I was very interested in the program at first because I have done a lot of sculpting before especially in school, although i love it, its not easy. Especially if you’re sculpting something symmetrical on the other side. I love that this program has a tool for being able to do the same thing to the other side of the object; it pretty much takes out all the hard work out of reality.
I know my high school art teacher would not approve of taking the hard work out of art.
but how amazingly beautiful is this!

Ponyo

Last week, I watched Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, written and directed by Hayo Miyazaki who also directed the movie Spirited Away. I really admire Miyazaki’s movies because they are so different from usual movies with a special cartoon, unrealistic, fanstasy theme. What I liked most about the movie was that the animation in Ponyo are very cartoon like; the character’s actions and reactions tell the audience more about the character’s personality. The characters actually don’t say too much in the movie, especially the main character, Ponyo, who doesn’t even speak till the middle of the movie. The animation of this movie is really inspiring to me since I want to become an animator. I thought this was a great movie and I really suggest others to watch it as well.
The movie is about Ponyo, a fish, and by a little boy named Sosuke and their young love for each other. Sosuke finds Ponyo and keeps her as a pet; as he promises to take care of her, she is snatched away by a wave created by her father, a sorceror. Ponyo experiments with her father’s exlixirs in order to turn human and reunite with Sosuke.
9
Tim Burton is pretty much my favorite director, there’s no one more creative and morbid than he is.
I’ve always wondered how incredible it would be to work for him or work with him. I’m always so thrilled to hear about his newest movie being out in theatres; his newest movie: 9, which is already out in theatres.
I was watching tv one day and saw the preview for it, following with an ad of a contest for the movie which really caught my attention.
www.dose.ca/contests/9/contest-rules.html
The contest is to design a character inspired by the movie 9.
I was planning on entering, however I haven’t been able to find the time with all the projects I’ve been trying to keep up with.
Perhaps someone else can find the time and make an incredible character

Staying positive
Last semester, I’ve never had a problem with the program, XSI, however, this term has changed my mind.
Texturing has never been easy for me; and doing it in a program I am unfamiliar with is much more difficult.
After countless mistakes, whines and moans, I almost thought about giving up. But there were so many people to help me and even if they could not figure out, they would still not give up. Their positive attitudes has changed mine and made me realize that of course problems never solve themselves, however if I can just clam down and take the time to think it over, I just might figure it out.
I felt so fortunate to recieve the attention and help from my peers (russell, the life saver) and my teacher. And after learning their techniques, occasionally there would still be a problem. When I took the time to go through everything and figure out the situation, I finally figured out what was wrong and when everything worked out, I felt so relieved and satisfied. It felt so amazing for things to finally start working out.
After that, I was finally able to finish my project fast and smoothly; and now I have three beautiful trees all textured in XSI
So for everyone that is wondering if I finished my trees…. Yes, I did.
Time Management
Recently, I’ve learned that time management is an important part of our lives; it can help organize our lives making things much easier
There are many methods and soultions to this simple problem, however certain solutions do not work out for certain people.
Last week, I found out what works best for me; I realized that taking some time to sit down and think of what is most important to me and what needs to be done first can help. So now, I have a notebook where I can brainstorm and write a list of things I need to do during the week, and put them in order. Taking a little bit of time can help ease my stress and frustration of deciding and remembering what to do next.
Time is an instance
If unappreciated,
Life might pass you by
